Whether the restaurant sets out wrapped drinking straws on the table for guests, or offers a straw dispenser by the soda fountain, straws are an important drinking accessory. Straws are usually made of plastic to keep them upright and sturdy in beverages. Disposable straws are sometimes distributed wrapped in paper coverings to keep them more sanitary. Sometimes this is even a health department requirement. Otherwise, they are manufactured just as is, either to be placed in a self-service straw dispenser or for servers to put them immediately in a drink before serving the guests.
Any restaurateur knows that hiring the wrong employee can be very costly for business.
