Plumbing Supplies You Can Install Yourself
Spare yourself the cost of a plumber if you come across a leaky faucet. Many plumbing tasks in the front and back of house can actually be tackled by yourself.
Pre-Rinse Hose
You might notice that your pre-rinse hose has a leak (or two). Lucky for you, these issues are typically easy to diagnose, and even easier to fix. If you notice a leak coming from the stainless steel hose, then go ahead and replace the entire hose. The leak may also be coming from the handle (either the top or bottom), which would require a washer replacement (in either or both spots) to tighten the seal. For more information about fixing leaks within your pre-rinse hose, check out our Troubleshoot and Repair Pre-Rinse Leaks video.
Commercial Faucets
Replacing either a wall mount or deck mount faucet is an easier job than you think. First, make sure the water is shut off before tackling any plumbing task! In many cases, all you'll need is a basin wrench or a crescent wrench to help you loosen the nuts on the hot and cold water lines.
Floor Drain Baskets
A simple fix you might have overlooked is as easy and looking at your feet. Floor drain covers and strainers aren't much of a DIY task per se, but these products are an inexpensive way to prevent a costly pipe backup. Spare yourself the headache and expense of a serious plumbing issue and stock up on a few floor drain baskets to keep your drains free and clear of debris.
Plumbing Parts That Can Save You Money
One of the biggest ways to throw money down the drain is a leaky faucet. That ‘drip' ‘drip' ‘drip' might not be concerning to you, but a faucet that drips 60 drips a minute could cost you as much as 5 gallons of water a day, equating to as much as 2,082 gallons of water wasted per year! Not only is this a serious drain on a precious resource, but it could cost you hundreds more on your water bill per year. Inspect all of the faucets in your restaurant, both in the front of house (think bathrooms) to the back of house (hand sinks, prep areas, etc.) and fix that leaky faucet as soon as you can.
Another easy way to save money on your water bill is to invest in eco-friendly pre rinse faucets. Companies like T&S Brass are expanding their selection of low-flow pre-rinse spray valves to minimize the amount of water used at each wash—without compromising performance! Equipping your dishwashing station with a low-flow pre-rinse spray valve could save you up to 100,000 gallons of water per year. With many municipalities tightening legislative guidelines around water use due to damaging droughts, equipping your kitchen with a high efficiency pre-rinse unit is the smart decision to make.
