Using BioShop shopping bags can yield major environmental benefits. These bags may be used like ordinary shopping bags in which you can take your groceries home safely, and then use as a trash bag for compostable waste. We call this “use and use again.” Regardless of whether the BioShop bag ends up in the compost or is incinerated, it has a favorable impact with regard to global warming, or as many say, the greenhouse effect. Compared with plastic, we are talking about a reduction of this effect by up to 49%.

  • Q:

Will the bags break down with moisture, since we will be packaging frozen meats in them

    • A:

That is a great question! The Biobags do break down with moisture pretty easily. They are thin, so if you want them to stay durable, I don’t imagine they would work that well. We can probably get you some samples if you want to try them out! Please call our sales team at 1.888.388.6372.

  • Q:

Are these bags plant based or will the leave a chemical residue when they break down?
    Asked on 1/31/2011 by Anonymous

    • A:

These bags are in fact plant based. Here is some information from the manufacturer:

      * BioBags are certified GMO Free. Furthermore, we only source corn from countries that do not allow GMO testing.
      * No polyethylene is used in the production of BioBags.
      * BioBags are DEN certified for restricted use of metals in our soy-based inks and dyes.
      * There are no chemical additives to enhance decomposition. The bags biodegrade naturally when expose to the earth’s elements and micro-organisms in the soil.
