This is a great knife sharpener. It is now my third; not because it isn't any good or because it wears out but the first two lasted over ten years each. I could put in a new sharpening edge but why? In ten years i will replace this one as I did the last two.

Q:How do I use this sharpener? How many times do I run it on each stage?
A:Place your non-sharpening hand on the base handle to keep the sharpener sturdy. Begin with the coarse grit and start at the heel of the blade; applying moderate pressure to ensure contact of the blade with the stone, pull the blade toward you making sure the tip of the knife also stays in contact with the stone. Approximately 10 passes on each grit should be sufficient, clean the blade and check for desired sharpness, repeat until desired result is attained.
