i have knife 8 in. long and 2 1/4 wide. will this fit into this guard?

No, the maximum width which will fit easily in this guard is two inches. The inside diameter is actually 2 1/8 inches which would be tight for a blade 2 1/8 inches wide and may not fit a knife that wide depending on the blade shape.

Yes, your 8" x 2 1/4" knife will fit in the guard. The knife guard is approximately 2 5/8" wide.

blade guards I want to purchase a guard for a bread knife that is 10 1/4 inches. Will the 10 inch guard work for that knife?

The 10 inch guard will leave about 3/8 inch of the blade near the handle outside the guard unprotected. It will work this way if the cutting edge if the blade is straight with the knife handle. If the blade extends down from the handle, it may not work. Fortunately, my bread knife is 9 7/8 inch long and the blade is straight with the handle and it works fine.

This knife guard will be 1/4" too short. You can still use it but you must understand that the cover will leave approximately 1/4" of the blade uncovered.
