Q:How do you clean the top so it doesn't start to smell like rotten milk!
A:I have similar carafes that have been in service for almost 7 years. The milk managed to get inside the cap itself. So I split the halves using a spoon--a soup spoon in this case. Inside the cap there may be a cork or Styrofoam insulation saturated with old and stinky milk. I would throw these away. I also left the cap empty. No cork or Styrofoam insulation--just air. The reason is because I clean the cap every night using this method. If the cap or the spout of the carafe still smells, use a little liquid sanitizer to remove the smell, soap it well to remove the sanitizer smell, let dry and put it back to service. Be sure to reassemble the cap properly by aligning the notches/grooves inside the cap halves then press together. Improper reassembly will result in the two halves rotating on each other. Good luck... :)
