Thanks for reaching out to Tundra Restaurant Supply with your question Robert.

In regards to installing a water cooled unit, or specifically the Scotsman C0330MW-1C Prodigy Water Cooled 400 Lb Ice Machine, it's really up to the discretion of the installer. Normally it would be plumbed with copper. The drains are generally plumbed with PVC.

That said, here is a link to the owner's manual for the C0330MW-1C ice machine for your conveninence: http://www.etundra.com/ShowDocument.aspx?fileId=328729

This manual has details regarding installation and a number of technical specifications you may find useful.

What's better air or water cooled ice makers

Thanks for contacting Tundra Restaurant Supply. We're happy to help answer customer questions. In regards to an ice machine/maker and what is "best" our technicians agree that water-cooled units are superior to air-cooled units.

The reason being: water-cooled units do not create excessive heat, cooling is more efficient, and the units to not have condenser coils that need monthly maintenance. That said, water-cooled ice machines are more expensive to operate. With a constant flow of water through the unit you're water bill will be higher, and some cities may not allow water-cooled units as any leak in the system may contaminate the water supply. Be sure to check with your municipality to see what the restrictions are.
