Restaurateurs might find the large selection of take out containers and disposable plates on the market to be staggering. From standard paper plates to eco-friendly disposables like those made from renewable resources or post-consumer recycled content, there are many types of disposable products to suit your needs. Great for mixers, catered events and take away from your restaurant, single-use products are used in abundance. At Tundra Restaurant Supply we feature a variety of disposables including portion cups, food trays, bowls and more from the industry's leading brands like Eco-Products. For more information on disposable dinnerware, check out our Disposable Dinnerware Buying Guide.
If you're hosting an event, chances are you'll opt for a single-use disposable product to ease service—don't think you can just pick up any disposable plate and call it good! Before jumping into any plating option always consider what you'll be plating first. Larger disposable plates (and even those with 3-compartments) work well for catered buffet lines when the majority of the meal is self-service. On the other hand, if you're one of many restaurants providing small tasters for guests, you may opt for smaller plates or portion cups (great for soups). When it comes to plating, do you like to have a larger plate to highlight a smaller entree? Or do you opt for smaller plates to make portions look larger? Do you prefer circular or square plates? Whichever you prefer, plating appropriately is key to enhancing the customer experience.
When it comes to finding the best take away container for your restaurant, you want something that's sturdy enough to make the trip home! Opt for to go containers with lids or closures that stay put and are not at risk for spills—your customers will thank you. And like most plating considerations, make sure your containers are suitable for whatever you're packing up; don't try to pack up a leftover steak in a bowl and lid, customers will find that awfully strange.
And consider this: your takeaway container is an extension of your brand, and the last impression a customer gets once they take their meal home. If initiatives like sustainability are important to you make sure you walk the walk—don't send home a meal in a styrofoam container when more eco-friendly options like compostable or post-consumer recycled plastic are available!
Disposable products were once a real threat to one's sustainability goals. Wasteful by nature, single-use products were used once and thrown straight into the landfill. But not anymore! With new advancements in compostable dinnerware, you can shop for products made from renewable resources (like sugarcane) that can be broken down in a commercial composting facility and turned into soil. You can also shop products that are made from post-consumer recycled content to minimize the impact on virgin resources.
